“An apple a day keeps the doctor away” is an old Welsh proverb. According to Medical News Today, an apple a day is just as effective as statins in preventing vascular death. Researchers from the University of Oxford in the UK found that eating an apple everyday could be just as effective as statins in preventing vascular deaths among people over 50.”

To Bake Apples, core and place local/organic apples upright in a baking dish. Drizzle with pure Vermont maple syrup and sprinkle with cinnamon. Add water just to cover bottom of dish. Bake, uncovered, at 375 degrees Fahrenheit for 25 to 30 minutes for less firm apples, and up to 50 minutes for firm varieties, or until apples are tender when pierced. If you prefer to microwave: Place apples in a deep microwave-safe dish, then cover and microwave for 3 1/2 to 4 minutes or until tender. Let the apples sit for 2 to 3 minutes before serving.
